The National Catholic School of Social Service (NCSSS) and their partners in the Conway School of Nursing (COSN), and the Department of Psychology are excited to share an exciting new opportunity for masters prepared professionals working in the District of Columbia. In July, NCSSS was awarded a 5-year, $2.5 million training grant from the Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) to develop and implement a cutting-edge certificate program to masters prepared clinicians. Each year, The Community-Based - Integrated Substance Use Training Program (CB-ISTP) will fully fund up to 12 practicing and licensed or license-eligible social workers, advanced practice nurses, professional counselors, and health psychologists in a year-long post-masters certificate program. This training program is designed to expand the expertise of practicing professionals to provide prevention, treatment, and recovery services for substance use disorders, including opioid use disorders, and co-occurring mental health disorders.

Why CB-ISTP?

The CB-ISTP is not just a program; it's a funded initiative dedicated to fostering robust clinical training and underscores The Catholic University of America’s commitment to empowering professionals at the forefront of substance use and mental health services. This year-long program is comprised of 7 courses (21 credit hours) over three semesters starting in the Spring of 2024 and includes asynchronous online coursework providing information from foundational knowledge to evidence-supported interventions. Trainees will also engage with their peers in face-to-face integrative seminars each week that feature live simulation lab experiences.  Trainees will also participate in clinical placements in local treatment programs to help gain practical insights and contribute to the community with clinical skills.
