Clinical Trials of Adapted Emotionally Focused Therapy for Bereaved Parents

This project has been submitted to the American Cancer Society under the Doctoral Training Grant in Clinical Oncology Social Work by Philip Domingue, a NCSSS doctoral student. If funded the recipient would test using a randomized clinical trial that an adapted Emotionally Focused Therapy model will be useful in working with bereaved parents who are in the first fifteen to thirty months of grief. Additionally it will evaluate if this intervention helps bereaved fathers communicate with mothers in a way that will permit them to grieve together more easily, thus promoting marital satisfaction in mothers and more open communication around grief for fathers resulting in improved processing of grief as per the DPM model.
