Eryca Kasse

Eryca Kasse, MSW, LICSW is a clinical social worker in Washington, DC with a background in mental health, substance use and addiction. She received her BSW from George Mason University in 1998 with a focus in her early career on social work with youth in high-risk situations; runaway, homeless, LGBTQ & court involved. She received her MSW from Howard University in 2010 where she completed field placements with women returning home from prison & jail, and adults living with mental illness & addiction experiencing homelessness. Her post-graduate work has focused on clinical social work with adults living with co-occurring mental health & substance use disorders at community mental health centers, addiction treatment programs & hospitals; providing diagnostic assessments, individual & group therapy and crisis intervention. In 2016 she launched her consulting practice CHOICES in Healing & Recovery, which provides clinical supervision, CEU trainings and workshops for people in recovery focused on trauma informed care in behavioral health.

Description

Learn concrete trauma informed knowledge & skills to assist trauma survivors living with
substance use disorders with engagement in an empowering process to identify and define
their own recovery treatment and support path.

1) Learn broadened definitions of trauma including (DSM V, SAMHSA, ACES,
Intersectional Oppression & more)

2) Identify the principles of Trauma Informed Care

3) Describe the relationship between unhealed trauma and the development of
substance use disorders through an overview of the Adverse Childhood
Experiences Study (ACES)

4) Analyze language of the 12 steps through a trauma informed lens, offering
alternative language options to promote healing empowerment & prevent retraumatization

5) Demonstrate knowledge of 10 resources to refer clients seeking peer support
alternatives to 12 steps.

Continuing Education Credits

This organization (NCSSS, ACE#1424) is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Board (ASWB) www.aswb.org through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Program. The (NCSSS) maintains responsibility for the program. ASWB Approval period: ( 2/2/2020-2/2/2023). Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval for continuing education credits. Social workers participating in this course will receive (3.0) Continuing Education clock hours.
