On April 20, 2026, NCSSS hosted a panel featuring the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services and the Jay Kenney Scholarship Friends, highlighting the vital role social workers play in Adult Protective Services. Panelists from both social work and nursing discussed the interdisciplinary collaboration required to support and protect older adults and individuals with disabilities, populations that are among the most vulnerable in our communities.
The panel offered students and attendees an in-depth look at the complex, team-based nature of adult protective services work, where social workers partner with legal, medical, and government professionals to ensure the safety and dignity of those they serve. This event also provided students with insight as to field opportunities available to them within Montgomery County DHHS and scholarship opportunities available through the Jay Kenney Memorial Fund.
This event reflects NCSSS's dedication to preparing students for the full range of social work practice, including work with aging and disability populations. We are grateful for our partnership with the Friends of Jay Kenney and the impact Jay Kenney is having on our campus and in our community.
