April 10, 2026

On April 10, 2026, Gretchen Gates, LICSW, BHWET Project Coordinator, provided training to the Catholic University community on the Principles of Trauma-Informed Pedagogy.  In her role as BHWET Project Coordinator, Gretchen Gates oversees and supports grant operations for the school’s Trauma Informed Practice Scholars Program. This grant-funded program aims to increase access to behavioral health services for children, adolescents, and young adults in the Washington, D.C. area by training Master of Social Work (MSW) students in trauma-informed behavioral health practice.

Through a free webinar and training to the Catholic University community, Gates’ training session introduced participants to the foundational concepts of trauma, its impact on learning, and practical strategies that faculty, staff, and university leadership can use to support students in coping and healing.

The training reflects NCSSS's growing role as a resource for trauma-informed practice not just within social work, but across the university. As educators increasingly recognize the importance of creating supportive, healing-centered learning environments, NCSSS's expertise in trauma-informed care positions the school as a valuable partner to the wider campus community.
