Dimensions of Difference: Fostering Positive Identity Formation in Social Work Practice

In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to reflect upon their individual relationship to privilege and oppression. As such, they can consider how the various dimensions of their own unique identities are celebrated, discouraged, or ignored within various contexts. Moreover, by recognizing the implications of our sphere of influence, participants will recognize their opportunities to foster positive identity formation on the micro, mezzo and macro scale within our communities.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Reflect upon their own sociopolitical relationship to privilege and oppression.
  2. Recognize institutionalized oppression within agency settings.
  3. Define concrete examples of sphere of influence, including abilities to promote safe and affirming spaces within an agency context.
