All Fun and Games: Directive Play to Engage Children

Objectives

Participants will:
  1. Learn the basic theoretical foundation and values of play therapy.
  2. Learn the differences between directive and non-directive play and the benefits of each.
  3. Understand and practice a variety of directive play techniques as well as learn "real world" tips for using each technique.
  4. Begin to think creatively about ways to develop their own playful strategies to integrate into their practice.

Lisa Larrabee, LCSW-C, LICSW, RPT-S, received her Master's Degree in Social Work from the National Catholic School of Social Service in 2005. She received a post-graduate Certificate in Play Therapy in 2010 from Johns Hopkins University and was certified as a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor by the Association of Play Therapy in 2011.  Lisa has been working since 2009 at an outpatient mental health clinic in Landover, MD, where she currently oversees trauma services for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, community violence, and other significant adverse experiences
