Mimi Weisberg
Mimi Weisberg is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing psychotherapy services to families, individuals, couples and adolescents as well as training, supervision, and program development for businesses and human service agencies for over thirty years. Mimi is an Adjunct Professor at GMU focusing on families, children and adolescent clinical work.
Ms. Weisberg earned her Masters of Clinical Social Work from Simmons College & Masters of Education in Counseling from Antioch University.
Mimi has been an active member, board member and on the Executive Board of the Safe Community Coalition for 16 years.
Description
The history and beginnings of family therapy is relevant and important in present day clinical work. This training will focus on the basic concepts of family therapy as well as how we define “family” and basic assumptions regarding families. Systems theory, interlocking systems, the concept of change and the changing nature of families, homeostasis and resistance and other concepts will be explored. Concepts such as sexism, racism, non-traditional families and gender-related themes will be addressed. Ms. Weisberg will ensure that the training has practical components along with didactic presentation of the concepts.

Learning Objectives
- Summarize history and beginnings of family therapy and why it is important to know this present day

- Look at power dynamics and explain how this relates to communication styles in families
- Be able to identify sub-systems, coalitions and the triangulation process
- Summarize the definition of healthy families and resiliency
- Explain the possible countertransference process when working with families
Continuing Education Credit Hours
This organization (NCSSS, ACE#1424) is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Board (ASWB) www.aswb.org through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Program. The (NCSSS) maintains responsibility for the program. ASWB Approval period: (2.2.17 to 2.2.20). Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval for continuing education credits. Social workers participating in this course will receive (3.0) Continuing Education clock hours.
All participants will receive Continuing Education Credit Hours Certificates in hand following completion of the workshop and the course evaluation. Participants must attend the complete workshop in person.
